Finalists Recognized at Annual Small Business Summit

HOUSTON — The U.S. Chamber of Commerce awarded NightLight Pediatric Urgent Care from Houston, Texas with the 2017 Minority Owned Business Achievement Award during its annual Dream Big Small Business of the Year Award Celebration, presented by MetLife. The annual awards ceremony celebrates the achievements of small businesses and honors their contributions to America’s economic growth.

“I’m proud to say NightLight Pediatric Urgent Care is the only minority and woman-owned business of its kind. It’s always been my dream, as the company grows, that there are more opportunities for these star employees to matriculate and to grow and develop.” – Zawadi Bryant, CEO and Co-Founder of NightLight Pediatric Urgent Care

The Minority-Owned Business Achievement Award recognizes a minority-owned, small business that has attained outstanding business achievement and exemplifies the significant contributions made by minority-owned businesses in the country. The business must be at least 51 percent owned or controlled by one or more U.S. citizens of the following ethnic/minority groups: African-Americans, Hispanic Americans, Native Americans, Asian Pacific Americans, and Subcontinent Asian Americans. Firms owned by Alaska Natives, Indian Tribes, and Native Hawaiians may also be considered for the award. The business must also have management and daily operations controlled by at least one (1) U.S. citizen of the aforementioned ethnic/minority groups.

Award winners were selected by a panel of judges from eighteen finalists in consideration for each of the five Business Achievement Awards and the one Dream Big Small Business of the Year Award. All eighteen finalists were also eligible for the Community Excellence Award, which was decided through online public voting.

“Small business owners are the backbone of our nation, exemplifying the American Dream by working hard, taking risks, and helping strengthen their communities and local economies,” said U.S. Chamber President and CEO Thomas J. Donohue. “The Dream Big Award winners have gone above and beyond to embrace innovation and entrepreneurship, and we are proud to recognize these tremendous small businesses for all of their achievements.”

Award winners were announced at the Dream Big Awards Celebration as part of the 2017 Small Business Summit, which took place September 10-13, 2017 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, D.C.
